JUST ANNOUNCED - City of Vancouver Passes New Laneway Housing Bylaw
What is Laneway Housing (LWH)?
Laneway Housing is a small house or cottage at the rear of a lot. It’s a new type of housing tailored to fit into single family areas.
Approximately 70,000 single-family lots across the city are eligible to add the new homes.
What are some of the key elements of Laneway Housing?
The underlying notion of LWH is eco-density. The city wishes to frame the future development of Vancouver with an eye toward affordability and environmental consciousness
The additional housing will enhance laneways through design and landscaping.
LWH is directed at rental or family use only, no strata-titling is permitted
The structure must be built in an area generally located in the space where a garage would be permitted
Upgrades to the main house are not be required with the addition of LWH
